UPDATED APRIL 2016 – With the JS7000 Series 4K SUHD TV, Samsung made 4K televisions much more affordable.  Released just last August, the entry level model in the premium SUHD range, the Samsung UN60JS7000 features 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160) and Nano-crystal technology for vivid colors, enhanced contrast, and a brighter, more true-to-life picture.

According to Samsung, the JS7000 series TVs all use 8-bit, non-3D-capable panels – so if you want or need 3D then you’ll need to look elsewhere. And the JS7000 fills in the premium SUHD TV series with a range of models, 50″, 55″ and 60″  that are more attractively priced to strengthen the SUHD lineup

JS7000 Series Appearance

The JS7000 series are Flat Screen TV’s with a V shaped stand and are finished in “Dark Titan”.  Note that unlike the other SUHD TV’s, this does not have a separate One Connect or One Connect Mini box – all the inputs are on the back of the TV.  However, this could be useful for some buyers who find that the positioning of their new TV is difficult if the one connect cables with all the are too short and cannot be extended.

There aren’t many TV’s that come as 60 inch so if you are looking for a new TV in this size, this is a good contender at less than $2000 for a premium range TV from an established and well-respected brand.

Samsung JS7000 Picture Review

This entry level SUHD TV comes with nanocrystal technology for enhanced color and  is also HDR (High Dynamic Range) ready for richer contrast, being able to decode and display HDR – an 8 Bit HDR TV which should give a very nice HDR picture for the price once content in this format becomes available.

The SUHD 4K TVs are designed to give you stunning colors, deep contrast, incredible brightness, and 4K resolution

Coming in 3 sizes – 60-inch UN60JS7000, 55-inch UN55JS7000 and 50-inch UN50JS7000, this is a flat screen 4K TV that features local dimming technology to improve black levels and contrast performance..

Samsung’s “120 motion rate” technology, (which is a 60Hz native refresh rate with additional image processing and backlight manipulation) makes moving subjects appear clearer on the screen, reducing motion blur.

All standard content is upscaled to simulated 4K using Samsungs UHD Upscaling which uses inbuilt software to upgrade all lower resolution media to a near ultra high-definition picture with enhanced detail and optimized picture quality. So even though there isnt a huge amount of 4K content just yet, you can still get great benefits from this new tv.

There is no 3D with this TV so you will need to go up to the JS8500 if you want a SUHD with 3D capability.

And, the Samsung JS7000 60-Inch 4K SUHD Smart TV has an Ultra Clear Panel designed to absorb ambient light and reduces reflections to minimize glare for a great picture from quite a wide angle.

With Samsung’s Tizen smart TV operating system and HEVC decoding you can access online streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, YouTube and many others.  Of course you’ll need a stable and reasonably fast internet connection  for content streaming(min 10mbs for HD and 25 Mbs for 4K) and you can connect via wired ethernet (Cat 7 recommended) or using the built in Wi-Fi, 802.11ac standard.

Because of the built in quad-core processor you get a smoother and more responsive experience and can quickly switch between apps, streaming content, and other media.  Samsung have also built in a full web browser, Skype video calling, and screen mirroring so that the screen will display a compatible smartphone or and tablet’s display.

And with ConnectShare Movie, you can watch videos, play music, and view photos via a USB connection.

Smart View 2.0 lets you can easily access and play your favorite content and you can also watch TV on your compatible mobile device.

You can find the full spec sheet here.

Remote Control TM1260C

The JS7000 comes with just the Standard Remote (TM1260C) so if you want the Smart Remote, you’ll need to buy this seperately.  Seems a tad penny pinching by Samsung but also demonstrates that they have really built this model to get an SUHD tv available at as attractive a price as possible.

Connectivity

As mentioned above, this TV has inputs on the TV itself, not via a connect box.  But it is very well equipped with 4 HDMI 2.0 inputs which all are HDCP 2.2 compatible for connecting 4K content devices when they are available.  The HDMI inputs include 1 DVI (HDMI 1), 1 MHL(HDMI 2 ) and 1 ARC(HDMI 3),  a LAN (ethernet) port, RF input (aerial), 3 USB inputs (1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0), optical digital audio output, stereo minijack out and legacy component/composite video input.

Recommendation

If you want to get the most futureproof bang for your buck with a competitively priced SUHD flatscreen televsion, then the JS7000 is the model that you’ve been waiting for.  With 4K resolution, nano-crystal technology, HDR ready and HDCP 2.2 compliant you have a choice of 50″, 55″ and 60″ currently priced between $1,000 and $2,000.
