UPDATED APRIL 2016 – Hisense are a recent entrant to the US television market so their name is still new.  But, they are a well respected and premium brand in their home country, China.

And this TV is a 4K television, with four times the number of pixels than a standard full high-definition TVs – BUT at a similar price to a 1080p TV.  So if you’re in the market for a new TV, you can get all the benefits of 4K now without paying a lot more than you would for a regular HD tv.  Its available in three sizes – 50 inch, 55 inch and 65 inch.

So, let’s take a closer look at these Hisense 4K television models and see what we think.

If you already know that this is the Television for you, then you can check out the latest price for the 50 inch screen here.

Appearance

HiSense 55H7B2 Quick Reference Guide. The H7 series is a 2015 model flatscreen television with a sleek and attractive design.  It has two feet on the bottom that sit at a slight angle and you’ll need a stand at least 36” wide and 9” deep to accommodate them safely.  The set has a black finish, to suit most decors and a slim bezel around the screen.

All connections are located on the rear bottom left and on the left side rear (as you look from the front)

There is also a manual control panel on the bottom left rear – in case you mislay the remote.

And, if you prefer to wall mount your TV then this is wall mountable and meets VESA standards (wall mount brackets are sold seperately)

Picture Quality

The panel is Full Array LED with edge lit backlighting which helps provide a deeper contrast ratio, but also limits the off axis viewing angle Native Refresh Rate is given as  120Hz

One point to note is that it does not have 3D capability so do be aware if this is a feature that you prefer to have.

For non-4K content, there is built in upscaling so that you can enjoy all sources.  This means that the TV can convert content that is in a lower resolution to 4K picture resolution.

It comes with over 30 pre-installed apps, a built-in wireless feature and Ethernet port and integrated dbx-tv audio technology. Although a 50 inch screen is considered by some to be on the small side for a 4K resolution, it will be appreciated by anyone who has limited viewing space.

Say, for example, you currently have a 32 inch HD television and watch from a distance of 4 feet away.  Well, with a 4K resolution television you could comfortably watch a 50 inch screen from a similar distance.  This is a massive increase – more than doubling your screen space, and  that will have a significant effect on your viewing experience.

For Gamers, there is a dedicated Game Mode that you can select in settings the will reduce screen latency.

And for Sports Fans, there is a “Sports Mode” that reduces motion blur in fast action scenes.
