IIf you are considering the Sony XBR-55X900A 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D LED TV then please read this first.

This is a quality premium 4K TV but is based on 2013 technology which was pre the new 4K standards.  Although this TV is being offered at a significant discount, we can no longer recommend the Sony XBR-55X900A 55-Inch 4K Ultra LED TV as the technology is not suited to the latest streaming standards and HDMI 2.0 connectivity.

Instead, we suggest checking out the 2014 version, the Sony XBR55X900B 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D LED TV currently priced at $2,798.00 from Amazon.  You can find our review here

This 65″ X9 was the Sony top of the range model in 2013 and is still a great television – described by one lucky owner as “beyond impressive”.  But Sony have continued to improve and there are some good reasons for choosing the 2014 “B” model over this, now, less expensive 2013 “A” model.

SONY XBR-65X900A Review

Perhaps the most practical update in 2014  is the inclusion of HDMI 2.0 standard inputs that can handle 4K at higher frame rates.  If you are considering the XBR-65X900A vs XBR-65X900B then do note that the 2013 model originally shipped with HDMI 1.4 although Sony said that firmware updates would be available to update it to HDMI 2.0.  If you are buying new, this is definitely something to check with the supplier before buying.

If you can afford to pay the extra, I would be inclined to recommend the 2014 model, the Sony XBR-65X900B.

However, at 3rd September 2014, at $3,199 the 2013 model is $800 less than the 2014 model XBR-65X900B so is certainly worth considering for this significant price difference.

The Sony XBR-65X900A gives you a large 65″ screen with a great quality picture

Here are some of the main features of this TV:

  • 4K Ultra HD  – i.e. 4 times more detail than Full HD 1080p
  • 4K X-Reality PRO Picture Engine with up scaling to 4K
  • Front-facing speakers with 65 Watts of powerful sound
  • TRILUMINOS display with more brilliant colors than ever
  • Dynamic Edge LED backlight for amazing contrast
  • Upscaling of HD content to 4K

Sony states that the XBR-65X900A will give you the widest color spectrum that they have ever offered on a TV. This is thanks to the Triluminos display technology that makes the colors look natural with incredible detail.

You also get built in Wi-Fi functionality that allows you to connect to HuluPlus, Netflix and YouTube as well connecting to your smartphone or tablet.

And this TV will give you incredible 5.1 simulated sound through speakers that feature the Magnetic Fluid technology so you get sound that matches the quality of this 4K TV.  Or of course, you can hook it up to your Home Theatre AV amp for full surround sound and a totally immersive experience.
